I was working my way through the MIPS Codescape Essentials Tutorials Building and Debugging and all was going exactly as is was mentioned in the document until I hit Section 3. Building and debugging bare metal applications.
Having copied and pasted both the make file and then the test.c source code I then proceded to run make (with a MIPS_ELF_ROOT=.local/opt/imgtec/Toolchains/mips-mti-elf/2016.05-03) and so far so good. With the newly created elf file I tried using the instructions shown in section 3.2.1 to start QEMU and then load the linked ELF; however, rather than receiving a process number after entering the command I was greeted with: "qemu: could not load kernel 'test.elf"
Has anyone else worked their way through this section of the document and if so, did you also run into the same error?
Im not big on the use of QEMU for mips simulation so any help would be appreciated.

BTW: The command line for QEMU that I used was:
~/.local/opt/imgtec/Simulators/qemu/188.8.131.52.0/bin/qemu-system-mips -nographic -no-shutdown -semihosting -cpu 74kf -kernel test.elf -S -s
which is exactly the oe shown in the document.
